Choosing the Best Camp Table
There really is no best folding table for camping, as it really depends on your individual camping styles and what you’re going to use it for. So that you buy the perfect outdoor camping table for you, consider the following factors.
One of the most important things when it comes to a collapsible camping table is its size. Are you looking for a small folding camping table or a large camping table? To answer this question, you really need to know what you intend on using the table for.
If you’re looking for a folding camping dining table and you have a large family then obviously you won’t be buying a mini camping table. However perhaps you have a few kids and so want to have a separate kids camping table, while the adults can make do with something smaller.
Or maybe you’re after a camp cooking table – somewhere to prepare food and to have your camp stove or BBQ on?
As you can see there is a bit to consider before deciding what is the perfect size fold up camp table and its not necessarily just how many people you’re camping with, it will also depend on what you intend to use it for.
In our experience, we find we like to have one table for everyone to eat around, which also doubles as the food prep area and then one table to store food and cooking equipment. If you have a larger family these maybe larger tables, although if there is a few of you a couple of small tables should suffice.
Although not as important as size, you may wish to consider the height of the table. For example, you might like a higher camping cooking table which you use while standing up, compared to a camping dinner table where you sit down. Then again if you’re looking for something inside a camper trailer or caravan you might be looking for a low camping table as a coffee table
The good news is, some of the best portable tables for camping are height adjustable. Usually, an adjustable leg camping table comes with the ability to set it at two or three different heights. This makes them super versatile as you can use the table for various purposes. Set it low if you’re using it as a kid’s camping picnic table, or high is you’re using it as camp stove table.
Weight capacity means how much weight will the table hold. This may not be an issue if you just plan on using it as a camping picnic table or a bit of food prep, but if you’re planning on using it as a camping BBQ table you may want to ensure the table can handle the weight – particularly if your BBQ is heavy.
Given this is a table for camping, portability is super important. The best portable folding camping table for sale, is reasonably lightweight, packs down nice and compactly and comes in a carry bag or has some handles built into it to make it easy to carry.
In terms of packability, there are pretty much two styles of camp tables. Those that have a flat tabletop that folds together versus those that have a slatted tabletop that rolls up. With the tables that fold, the legs usually fold up under the tabletop and then the tabletop folds in half or sometimes even in threes. With a roll up camp table, on the other hand, the legs are removed and you simply roll the top of the table – these are usually far more compact than a foldable table.
So in terms of portability, an aluminium folding camping table will be lighter than a stainless steel or plastic camping table of the same size and a roll up aluminium camping table will be more compact once packed down then an aluminium folding camping table.
When it comes to portability, just remember that everyone’s needs will be different. If you have a small car and space is minimal then the best compact camping table (like a camping roll up table) will be more important then the best lightweight folding camping table. In contrast, if you have a camper trailer or caravan and weight limits are a concern, then you’ll want to consider an ultralight camping table.
Generally, camping tables don’t come with any storage, however there are a few that will have a pocket or shelve underneath the tabletop. A portable camping table with storage is perfect for storing plates or other cooking equipment when not in use. If you need some additional storage for your camping set up, definitely consider a table with storage underneath.
Camping folding tables are built using a range of materials such as aluminium, plastic, metal sometimes even wood. Most people start out with a plastic folding camping table as many may even have one at home already, plus they are usually the cheapest option. There is nothing wrong with plastic tables, however for a lightweight and long lasting table, aluminium is best. However an aluminium camping table is generally more expensive.
The Best Camping Table Reviews
Hopefully after reading the above, you have a better understanding of what the ideal collapsible camp table is for you. Below I’ve provided a detailed review of some of the best folding table for camping options that are currently available in Australia.
The best things about these Coleman camp tables are how light they are. Made from aluminium, these are the lightest tables of this size in these reviews. They come in two different sizes – either 1.2 metres or 1.8 metres and have a good weight capacity of around 100kgs, so perfect for being used as a dining table or even a cooking table for your BBQ.
The Coleman camp table is also height adjustable so can be used as a standard dining table, or for a lower coffee table. This makes it super versatile whether you’re after a camping cooking table or a camping coffee table.
The lightweight foldable camping table folds in half for transporting and storage and has a built in carry handle making it easy to move from car to campsite. They also feature a pinch free safety lock so the table isn’t going to accidentally collapse on you.
The surface of these tables is durable with UV protection as well as being scratch resistant, so will last you for years to come.
This is certainly not a cheap camping table, but you’re paying for the additional features and the fact it is an aluminium folding portable camping table which makes it super lightweight and durable. However for those campers, after a large lightweight aluminium camping table that will last for years and years, you can’t go wrong with these Coleman camping tables.
At 1.2 metres long, this Wanderer BCF camping table is a good size for your camp set up – perfect for eating your meals from as well as preparing them. At just under 8 kgs, this table certainly isn’t lightweight, however given it has storage and thanks to its lightweight aluminium frame, this table is lighter than many in this guide. Although it only has a 30kgs weight capacity, so you’ll want to be mindful of putting too many heavy items on it, such as a portable BBQ. However, this Wanderer camping table is perfect for everything else.
The best part of this aluminum camp table though is of course the hanging storage cupboard underneath. The cupboard has a zippered mesh front so you can keep your things safe and secure and not have to worry about insects or other wildlife getting into it. The end of the cupboard also has various pockets which are great for storing items like your phone, sunnies or sunscreen.
The table folds in half for easy transporting and storage and is also an adjustable height camping table.
This Wanderer table is awesome for campers not only looking for a fold away camping table but also a bit of storage. This folding aluminium camping table not only provides you somewhere for prepping meals and dining but also somewhere to store all your gear too.
Anaconda camping tables, like this Spinifex range, are pretty popular options for Aussies after a compact and lightweight table. Considering the features of these tables, they offer great value for money too.
While these tables feature a lightweight aluminium frame, they have a unique wood look MDF top. They come in two sizes – either 120cm and 90 cm in length, 60 cm wide and a height of 70 cm. These lightweight camping tables are height adjustable too, with the option of going down to 37 cm.
When not in use, the Spinifex camping table folds down reasonably compact and has a built in handle to make it easy to carry.
For tables of this price, the most impressive feature is how lightweight they are. They are very similar in weight to the previous Coleman tables. However, unlike the Coleman tables impressive 100 kg weight capacity, these tables only have a 30 kgs capacity. This is fine though, for most things you’d likely use it for while camping.
If you’re looking for a fold down camping table with all the features yet you don’t want to pay top dollar for it, then definitely consider the Spinifex Anaconda camping table. It’s a good size table perfect for a range of purposes.
The Lifetime camping table is a product most of you would be familiar with – in fact, you’ve probably got one in the shed at home. You know the solid white tables often referred to as Bunning’s tables? These make good reliable and cheap camping tables and are ideal where space or weight is not an issue.
Coming in a huge range of sizes, whatever the reason you need a table for camping, there is the perfect size for you. These tables are so versatile that no doubt you’ll use them for a bunch of reasons even when you’re not camping.
These are really solid tables made with high density polyethylene. They have a huge weight capacity of up to 7 times more than other tables in these reviews. This makes them ideal if you’re looking for a strong camping table to put your heavy BBQ while camping or even if you’re doing jobs at home in the shed.
The main downside with these tables is they are heavy. This may not be a huge issue for you, but if your load is already close to the limit or you’re looking for ways to cut back, then these tables are not for you. You’ll be able to get tables of similar size at almost half the weight – but also close to double the price too.
If you’re after a good all rounder table that is reasonably cheap and super strong, you can’t go wrong with a Lifetime folding camping table – as the name suggests – they really will last you a “lifetime”. However, if weight is an issue, you’re best to consider one of the other tables in these reviews.
This OZtrail camping table is another great option for campers after both a table and some storage space. It’s a smudge bit bigger and heavier than the other Wanderer camping table with shelves reviewed above and a little bit cheaper too.
With a length of 1.2 metres, this is a good all rounder table. It’s perfect as a camping food prep table, camping cook table as well as somewhere for the family to eat. With a weight capacity of 30kgs, you’ll be able to store all your camping gear on top, although you’ll probably need to leave off any heavy portable BBQs.
The table features a lightweight and sturdy aluminium frame and has an MDF melamine top. It is also height adjustable, giving you the versatility of a low coffee table or standard picnic camping table.
The best part about this adjustable camping table is the fabric pantry which is underneath the tabletop. The fabric is made from strong double 300D polyester and features MDF shelving. The cupboard has mesh windows that ensure good ventilation while also preventing insects or other wildlife from getting inside. At the end of the table, there are also a couple of additional pockets for storing things you want to access quickly.
The table folds in half when not in use and has safety clips to keep it together. It also has a built in carry handle so you can easily get it from the car to your campsite.
Just keep in mind that you won’t be able to pull your chairs under the table while the cupboards are in use, so it won’t be ideal if you’re after a traditional style dining table. However, it would make an awesome camping utility table or for eating meals if you’re not fussed about not being able to pull your chair right under.
Overall the OZtrail and Wanderer tables are both very similar, with very little difference between them. Whether you’re after an all purpose table for the centre of your camp setup or after somewhere for prepping and storing food, the Oztrail table with storage is a great option.
If super lightweight and compact is the priority, then you’ll love this small folding camping table by Trekology. At just under 1 kg, this is by far the lightest table in these reviews, but also by far the smallest at just 40cm in length. Nevertheless, this is a great little table when you don’t need a lot of space.

The rubber feet keep the table securely in place in a range of terrains, so it’s perfect for a range of camping tasks such as meal prepping, cooking or eating meals. The aluminium slatted camping table weighs just over 5 kgs, which makes it pretty lightweight and once packed away, the table is compact, so easy to throw in the boot of the car. It’s also relatively cheap compared to other tables listed in these reviews, so perfect if you do not want to spend a small fortune.
This portable Kings table is awesome as a camping table for two, a small group of campers or even a large family looking for an additional camping table that won’t take up too much space. Lightweight, compact and made with quality materials, this is a great little table that will last for years.
