Complete Guide to the Best Inflatable SUP Australia 2024

Looking for the best inflatable paddle board Australia has? Then read on because in these inflatable SUP reviews 2024, we’re going to help you find the best inflatable SUP Australia has!

The best inflatable stand up paddle board Australia has, can make those day trips or weekends away near the water so much more fun!  Whether you’re a family, a couple or a group of mates, it just adds a whole other element to your trip, being able to cruise out along on the water.

Sure many places hire out SUPs these days – but those fees can soon add up. On the other hand, if you have your own inflatable SUP board, you can go for a paddle whenever you like, not needing to worry about hiring one or being sure to return it in the allocated time frame.

But why consider an inflatable SUP for sale?  Isn’t it better to purchase a hard shell SUP – aren’t they more stable?  Well, you might be surprised at just how stable a blow up stand up paddle board can be – not to mention how much easier it is to transport.  The chances are if you’re going away for the weekend, you may even need to leave a hard shell paddle board at home because you just don’t have the means of transporting it – but not with SUP inflatable boards!

We recently swapped over from a hard shell kayak to an inflatable one and now I’m looking for the best inflatable SUP 2024 has – because we all really enjoy that too.  If you’ve read my inflatable kayak guide – you’ll know just how portable it is – we even took it over on the ferry to Great Keppel Island with us recently.  So easy!

While, of course a hardshell SUP can go wherever you go (provided you have the means to transport it) – you need to have somewhere at home to store it, be able to lug it up on your roof racks and then lug it down to the waterfront.  Then all that in reverse!  Plus, if you’re on a road trip or flying somewhere, you may not even have the space to bring it along.

With the best blow up paddle board, it packs away in a compact bag and you can easily throw that in the back of the car with you.  Yeah, sure you need to inflate and deflate it – but seriously, this is so much less effort than all the lugging around you need to do with a hard shell SUP – plus you’ll never need to leave it at home, so you’ll naturally get more use out of it.

So if you want to buy a SUP and wonder if inflatable SUP boards are any good, this guide is certainly for you.  In these inflatable paddle board reviews 2024, I take you through all the things you need to think about so you purchase the best blow up SUP board that is perfect for you.  Then in the review section, we’ll look at some of the top rated inflatable paddle boards Australia currently sells.

No matter what sort of inflatable board you’re after, hopefully after reading this inflatable stand up paddle board reviews Australia guide, you’ll be well on your way to buying one that’s right for you.

Inflatable SUP vs Hard Shell SUP

No doubt you’re wondering the pros and cons of an inflatable SUP vs hard shell SUP.  When I first thought of an inflatable SUP, I was thinking of pool inflatables and thought, how could that possibly be any good.  However, the top inflatable SUP boards for sale are made from top quality materials and don’t resemble inflatable pool toys in the slightest!

Here are my thoughts on why I think an inflatable stand up board is better than a hard / rigid one:

  • You can take them anywhere!  Given the best inflatable SUP boards, Australia has pack up so compactly you can throw them in the back of the car and take them wherever you go.  You can even check it in as luggage on an aircraft if you like.
  • The best SUP boards Australia sells are lightweight – so easy to pick up; this is also super important when camping and you have weight limits to abide by.
  • No need to tie them down, like a rigid SUP.  With blow up SUP boards, you just throw them into the car and away you go.
  • Easy to store.  Unlike a rigid SUP, which can take up a stack of room, top rated inflatable SUP boards take up next to no space at all.
  • If you fall on your inflatable board, this will not hurt anywhere near as much as it will when hitting a hard shell board.
  • Inflatable stand up paddle boards are, in fact, more comfortable for your feet and reduces fatigue – so you can stand on them for longer than you can on a hard shell board.

While you do need to inflate and deflate an inflatable SUP, overall, they are just way less effort than a hardshell one.  This means you’ll get far more use out of it and therefore, it is far better value for money.

Choosing the Best Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

When it comes to buying the best inflatable SUP paddle board, it’s different for everyone as it really depends on what you want to use it for and a range of other factors that are unique to you.  So that you buy inflatable paddle board that is perfect for you, consider the following factors.

Purpose and Skill Level

Probably the first thing you want to consider is what do you plan on using your SUP for?  Is this your very first SUP and so you’re after the best SUP for beginners Australia has that you can take camping with you when there is a lake, creek, river or calm water at the beach?  Maybe it’s just something for the family to have a bit of fun with and nothing too serious.

Or perhaps you have plans to use it for longer trips along the water or even a bit of yoga?  You can also use your SUP for fishing or surfing if you’re really keen.

The type of activities you want to use your SUP for will help guide you on which board is right for you.

You might also want to consider your level of experience as some SUPs are more stable than others.  However, the more stable, the bigger the SUP and the bigger the SUP, the less agile it is in the water.

In this guide, we tend to focus on more all rounder type boards, which is the best inflatable SUP for beginners or those looking for something to use for light recreational activities.

Size

Once you know what activities you have planned for your board and have determined your level of experience, you’ll be able to consider what size board is best for you.

The length of the board determines speed; with the longer, the better.  However, shorter boards are easier to manoeuvre.  While the width determines the board’s stability, with wider boards being more stable, however, a narrower board is easy to move in the water and therefore faster.

All rounder boards are reasonably wide boards for great stability, making them ideal for beginners and children. In addition, they perform reasonably well for a range of activities such as fishing, yoga and even surfing.  This makes all rounder SUPs very popular because you can really grow with your board.

However, if you’ve got a little bit of experience behind you and are confident of your stability, then you may prefer a more narrow, longer board that glides easier through the water.  This is perfect for those wanting to go out for long paddles on the water rather than short paddles close to the shore.  Narrow boards are also easier for smaller, lighter people to manoeuvre.

Larger, heavier people will do better with wider boards as this provides them with better stability.  Wider boards are also great if you plan on paddling with your young child on the front or your dog, as well as those planning on using their board for yoga or fishing.

If you’re buying one SUP for a range of activities or for a family with different sized members – then go for the largest board required. However, if you’re really stuck, go for a medium length board of around 10 ft (305 cm) as this is great for beginners as well as a range of different activities.

Thickness

The board’s thickness helps with the board’s stability, however too thick and you’ll be riding too high off the water, which leads to wobbling and decreases stability.  Also, when you fall off (and you will), it’s much harder climbing on a particularly thick board.

Generally, something around 5 inches (13 cm) makes for a good stable board.  However, for particularly heavy people, or for someone planning on having their child or dog on the front (combined weight of around 100 kgs or more), then you’ll want to look for a board with a thickness of at least 6 inches (15 cm).

If you are particularly experienced with SUPing, you may feel more comfortable going with a board that is less than 5 inches thick.

Weight Capacity

Ok, so you know exactly what the ideal size board is for you – but just make sure it has the appropriate weight capacity for you.  If you’re too heavy for your board, it will sit too low in the water and make it difficult to paddle.

When considering weight capacity – be sure to factor in whether you’ll have any gear with you or whether you’ll mostly have a young child or dog on the front.

Weight and Portability

One of the main reasons you’re no doubt going with a stand up inflatable paddle board over a rigid one is because they are lightweight and portable.  However, there are a few factors that can make one inflatable SUP more portable than another.

A lightweight SUP is not only easier to transport, but they are also easier to manoeuvre in the water.  You also want to consider how compact it packs down and whether it comes in a carry bag – because this is what really makes it portable.

In terms of weight, it’s important to note that good quality light SUPs are more expensive to make than heavier SUPs. So while a SUP may be light, if it’s also cheap, it’s probably not made from quality materials.  This is why you’ll generally find a good quality affordable SUP, to be heavier than a top quality lightweight SUP. It’s just something you’ll need to weigh up – price v’s weight – that is, if you don’t want to compromise on the quality.

Also, the longer and wider the SUP, the heavier it will be – so just make sure you’re comparing apples with apples when considering the board’s weight.  There is no point comparing the weight of a short narrow board with a long wide board because it’s not the same.

Included Accessories

The best stand up paddle board Australia has will undoubtedly come with at least a few accessories such as fins, pumps and paddles.  However, there is a huge range of accessories for SUPs – it really just depends on what you want to do with it.

  • Fins: Most inflatable paddleboards for sale come with a removal fin – these help with stability and how your SUP glides through the water.
  • Pump: Generally, your SUP inflatable paddle board will come with a hand pump – most people find this more than sufficient, but if you plan on using your SUP regularly, you may want to invest in an electric pump.
  • Paddle:  Most SUP inflatable paddle boards come with a paddle – make sure it can come apart easily and be stored in the same bag as your SUP for easy transport and storage.
  • Leash: A leash is attached to your ankle so that in case you fall off, your board will stay connected to you.
  • Storage: Some SUPs come with bungees, tie down straps or d rings where you can keep things like dry bags or add accessories such as kayak seats.
  • Mounts:  Some SUPs even have mounts for cameras or fishing rods.

Fuel Aqua Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board Review

Fuel Aqua SUP

One of the most popular inflatable SUPs that I keep seeing while I’m on the water is the Fuel Aqua 10’2” SUP by Anaconda. It is one super popular board! And it’s really no surprise because this is an excellent priced board that is perfect for those after their very first inflatable SUP.

The Fuel Aqua is one of the best affordable inflatable SUP options in these reviews. But don’t let the low price concern you, as this is a quality product.
With a length of 310 cm, the paddle board is a standard size board in these reviews. It’s super stable as well as being versatile for a range of different activities. Aqua Pure Air Anaconda Paddle Board Review

The Aqua Marina Pure Air Anaconda paddle board is the perfect option for those after a super lightweight inflatable SUP.  At just 8.1 kgs, this is one of the lightest boards in these blow up paddle board reviews.  It’s also well priced, a great all rounder size and has a weight capacity of 105 kgs.

At 310 x 76 x 12 cm, the Aqua Pure Air Anaconda SUP is a slightly smaller board than the previous BCF and King stand up paddle board, but only just.  The Anaconda inflatable SUP is also has a smaller weight capacity of 105 kgs than the Kings and BCF’s huge 150 kg weight capacity – although in most cases, this capacity should be more than enough, even if you want to paddle with a small child or dog on the front.

If you’re a smaller person and having something ultra lightweight is your priority, the Aqua Pure Air by Anaconda is well worth considering. However, it is a cheap inflatable SUP and so doesn’t have as many features as the other blow up paddle boards for sale in this review.  So if weight isn’t a priority, I’d probably recommend one of the other SUPs.
